Two more in dock for NC municipal fraud─── ELSABÉ RICHARD 06:13 Tue, 06 Oct 2020

Two more suspects linked to a fraud and corruption case amounting to R2 million at the Ubuntu Municipality in the Northern Cape, were granted R30 000 bail each in the Victoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
This came after Isak Andrew and Ivan Steenkamp were arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team Monday morning.
According to provincial Hawks spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, the duo’s court appearance came after the former acting municipal manager, 53-year-old Xolani Goodman Malgas and a contractor, 58-year-old Dan Bevin Sonwabo Nkili, appeared in court in August. They were also granted R30 000 bail each.
Mnisi says the group faces charges of fraud and corruption in connection with a tender to supply and deliver materials to install electricity to 206 households in the area in 2016.
She adds that various supplies for road upgrades were also required - but never realised. Mnisi further explains that no proper procurement procedures were followed and several payments to various service providers were allegedly made.
Andrew and Steenkamp are expected to appear in court again on 16 November. Investigations continue.
