#Marikana trial continues with testimony from witnesses─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:35 Tue, 06 Oct 2020
The murder trial against former North West top cop and commissioner, general Mzondase Mpembe, and five others will on Tuesday continue at the Mmabatho High Court.
The National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) regional spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, says the trial against Mpembe and five co-accused will resume with the witness testimony.
They are facing six counts of murder, attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and contravening the Commissions Act by giving false information at the Marikana Commission of Inquiry. Mamothame adds that the trial is related to six murders in Marikana on 13 August 2012 during a wage strike by Lonmin mine workers.
"It is alleged that a violent confrontation between the police and the striking miners ensued resulting in the death of the six and leaving others badly injured. The six accused are currently out on bail," he adds.
