Activities identified to help NC matriculants─── ELSABÉ RICHARD 09:33 Tue, 06 Oct 2020
The Northern Cape Department of Education has identified initiatives to help close to 8 000 matriculants in the province succeed during their final examinations.
This, as the coronavirus lockdown has resulted in schools closing their gates which lead to many learners losing out on attending classes in preparation of the exams ahead. The department says in a statement that it has identified ‘push activities’ to help learners catch up on work and be equipped to sit for this year’s National Senior Certificate Examinations. These activities include weekend lock-in sessions, Saturday classes, and spring schools.
The department says these Grade 12 intervention programmes will be district-specific while targeting high enrolment and problematic subjects. Furthermore, 24 Spring School Centres and 25 school-based walk-in centres have been established in all districts in the Northern Cape. The above-mentioned programmes are scheduled to take place from 23 October to 1 November with carefully selected educators who are experts in their relevant fields.
“The Department of Education is doing all it can to ensure improved learner performance across all grades. The department strongly appeals to parents and all school communities to continue to support their children and create a conducive environment at home to study.”
The department assures that all precautionary measures to adhere to the Covid-19 regulations and guidelines have been put in place. This is to ensure the safety of learners and teachers alike.
