The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in the Free State has come out in defence of the ruling party’s Secretary-General, Ace Magashule.

According to the ANCYL there seems to be a well 'orchestrated usage of state organs to fight internal ANC factional battles'.

The ANC structure says it has observed how the media and state organs have been used to isolate certain leaders of the ANC, particularly Magashule.

ANCYL Free State's provincial spokesperson, Sello Pietersen, in a statement highlights that the Youth League in the province is fully behind Magashule, and would like to warn all organs of state, particularly law enforcement agencies, to refrain from being used as "political tools and proxies of political battles in the ANC."

The statement by the ANCYL in the province comes amidst media reports that the Hawks have issued a warrant of arrest for Magashule, following its recent arrests relating to the controversial R255 million worth asbestos project in the Free State.

Following the arrest of Blackhead Consulting CEO Edwin Sodi and his six co-accused - which include the former Free State Human Settlements HOD Nthimotse Mokhesi, former Free State MEC and ousted Mangaung Mayor Olly Mlamleli, and former national Director-General Thabane Zulu, among other government officials - the Hawks confirmed two or three more arrests are expected to be made before the seven suspects are due to appear in court again on November 11.

"We are aware of the carefully defined stages in implementing this nefarious plan, the first phase is to use the untransformed and counter-revolutionary media to consistently tarnish the image of those targeted. By so doing, the public is sold a negative narrative underpinned by falsehoods, character assassinations, and manufactured allegations that will never stand the test of time in a competent court of law. The second phase is to conduct CIA kinds of arrests where those targeted are paraded in the media as part of continuing with the peddling of a false narrative and firmly communicating a message of guilt in the court of public opinion," said Pietersen.
