The nationwide strike, which included towns such as Bothaville, Welkom, and Qwaqwa to name a few, was according to the provincial secretary of Cosatu in the province, Monyatso Mahlatsi, just the beginning of the strike against corruption, unemployment, and workers' rights.

Mahlatsi says that as long as essential workers during the Covid-19 pandemic have not been paid yet by the government, Cosatu will continue to fight for its members. The strike, according to Mahlatsi, does not have a set duration.

Meanwhile, after a successful march, the union acknowledged its first phase's completion with the Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela accepting their memorandum.

The strike also targeted workers' problems of retrenchment against private companies. Cosatu was accompanied by the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) and the South African Teachers Union (Sadtu) with a core vision of each of their issues respectively being dealt with by the government.
