FS mayor 'saved' by one vote─── CATHY DLODLO 16:16 Wed, 07 Oct 2020
A Free State mayor was saved from a motion of no confidence with one vote during a council meeting on Wednesday.
The mayor of the Tswelopele Local Municipality – that includes Hoopstad - Frans Matsholo, faced a motion of no confidence Wednesday morning.
He was earlier in the news when reports surfaced that he and his wife allegedly received SASSA grants for three of their children - even after he was inaugurated as mayor.
This motion against Matsholo was proposed because of alleged service delivery problems that led to several protest actions. DA councillor Moshe Snyer says he also laid a criminal charge against Matsholo after he allegedly chopped down indigenous trees to sell overseas.
Snyer says the mayor also neglected to do something about the raw sewerage that runs into the Modder River.
