This, after a 52-year-old suspect was arrested on Wednesday in connection with Tuesday's violence which saw approximately one hundred demonstrators, among them armed individuals, reportedly storming into the court building.

They were demanding that two suspects, arrested for the murder of farm manager Brendin Horner, be handed over.

Spokesperson Lirandzu Themba says Police Minister Bheki Cele has called for more arrests, as it is clear that the criminal acts were a collective act that threatened the rule of law.

Following a brief court appearance of the two suspects, Sekwetje Isaiah Mahlamba (32) and Sekola Piet Matlaletsa (44), on Tuesday, the group of protesters allegedly fired gun shots, overturned a police van and set it alight.

Horner was found tied to a pole in an open field at the De Rots farm last week. He had been stabbed and strangled.

OFM News has meanwhile reported that the 52-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the court within 48 hours.

The 52-year-old farmer from Marquard is expected to be charged with malicious damage to property and public violence.
