Another #CosatuNationalStrike planned─── ELSABÉ RICHARD 12:18 Thu, 08 Oct 2020
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) in the Free State says it is preparing for yet another strike.
This is according to the provincial secretary, Monyatso Mahlatsi, who spoke to OFM News following the successful completion of its national strike on Wednesday. Mahlatsi stated that the next strike will focus on issues relating to public service. He said, however, it has not yet been determined when the strike will take place.
Mahlatsi said this strike stems from problems pertaining to public servants’ salaries. He further explained that the union is currently activating processes “to deal with the issue of retrenchments in the mines and other private companies that are intending to retrench our members”. Mahlatsi strongly stated that the union will be fighting until the end.
OFM News recently reported that Cosatu, along with other unions such as the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) and the South African Teachers Union (Sadtu) handed over a list of demands to the Free State premier, Sisi Ntombela. on Wednesday. Ntombela, who accepted the demands, applauded the unions and encouraged them to keep fighting for workers around the country.
