NC Education weighs in on school rape case─── LEATILE LEIEE 12:23 Thu, 08 Oct 2020
The Northern Cape Department of Education is set to start investigations into the alleged rape of a 17-year-old schoolgirl at a high school in Kagiso, Kimberley.
This is according to the spokesperson of the department, Geoffrey van der Merwe, who says they are currently verifying the facts with the South African Police Service (SAPS) on the alleged incident. Van der Merwe says that the details will assist for the time being while other stakeholders can come and assist on the matter.
The 17-year-old victim was allegedly raped in the ladies' bathroom on the school's premises on 7 March 2020 at about 14:00 by an unknown male. The matter was since reported to police on 20 July 2020.
Police have released an Identity kit and have asked the community to assist in the search of the suspect.
