Suspect in court following #Senekal protest | News Article

A 52-year-old Free State suspect arrested in connection with violent protests at the Senekal Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, is expected to appear in court this morning.

The suspect, who is from Marquard, will be facing charges of malicious damage to property and public violence.

He was arrested a day after two suspects - Sekwetje Isaiah Mahlamba (32) and Sekola Piet Matlaletsa (44) - appeared in court for the murder of the 21-year-old farm manager, Brendin Horner, whose body was found tied to a pole at the De Rots farm on October 1. He had been stabbed and strangled.

The 52-year-old suspect is alleged to have been among approximately a hundred demonstrators, among them armed individuals, who stormed into the court building demanding the two murder suspects to be handed over to them.

They thereafter allegedly proceeded to fire gunshots, overturned a police van, and set it alight.

The case against the two murder suspects has meanwhile been postponed to next week Friday to allow them to apply for bail.

Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, earlier confirmed to OFM News that the case against the pair will be transferred from the Senekal Magistrate's Court to Paul Roux.
