In an email that was leaked this weekend, which OFM News has seen, the court stated that the attachment order is to recover the more than R492million owed to the foreign company by the municipality.

This matter follows a default judgement in the same court in September this year. The municipality owes the company for a contract that was awarded in 2014 contract awarded to the private company.

In a subsequent audit report, the awarding of the contract was however declared irregular by the Auditor General.

Municipal officials are now expressing concern that the municipality might not be able to pay salaries this month or to pay the Rand Water and Eskom.

Several attempts by OFM News to get comment from the Emfuleni local municipality were so far unsuccessful.
