This, as Health MEC Maruping Lekwene on Sunday visited facilities such as the Professor ZK Matthews Hospital in Barkly West, Galeshewe Day Hospital in Kimberley, and EMS call centres. According to the Health Department, these oversight visits form part of Lekwene's plan to motivate healthcare personnel as well as to monitor service delivery. 

The MEC checked facilities’ cleanliness, medication stock levels, and medical equipment availability, amongst others.

The department says this strategy aims to improve service delivery and inspire confidence in health services provided to communities in the Northern Cape. 

Lekwene, during his oversight visits, expressed his gratitude for the sterling work done by healthcare workers despite the many challenges experienced in some areas. 

Furthermore, the department says where there are shortcomings, interventions will be requested before the MEC follows up.
