Relatives face murder charges in NW─── LUCKY NKUYANE 07:31 Tue, 13 Oct 2020
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is set to oppose the bail application of three alleged murderers in Potchefstroom in the North West on Tuesday.
NPA regional spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, says the trio - including a domestic worker and two gardeners - will appear in the Potchefstoom Magistrate's Court following the murder of Sias Willemse (74).
He says Willemse's body was discovered by a family member in the house with a gunshot wound with three ties around his neck.
Mamothame adds that the deceased was allegedly shot by a gun stolen from his house a night before the incident.
It's understood that Merriam Mahlapo, Petrus Mahlapo, and Andries Mahlapo - who are all related to each other - allegedly fled with R15 000 in cash, a pocket knife, and Willemse’s wife’s vanity case.
"The wife was visiting family in Cape Town at the time of the incident. Merriam worked as a domestic worker, while Petrus and Andries worked on the farm and in the garden," he adds.
Mamothame explains that during the investigations ‘’the police were led to the accused through a neighbour’s video footage and informers who assisted with information.’’
A knife was found on one of the accused, while another pointed out the vanity case in Parys and one of them made a confession.
