Farmers to meet with Cele─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:54 Tue, 13 Oct 2020
A group of farmers has descended to the Meets Agriculture Union Hall outside Bethlehem in the Free State for a much-anticipated meeting with Police Minister Bheki Cele.
The meeting follows public violence at the Senekal Magistrate's Court following the court appearance of two men accused of the murder of Brendin Horner a week ago. During the protest, farmers in numbers voiced their concerns about the government's reaction to farm murders in the Free State and across the country. They have accused Cele and the government of not prioritising the farm murders that have recently caused an uproar in the country. His meeting with the farmers coincides with the court appearance of André Pienaar who is accused of malicious damage to property, attempted murder, and public violence.
The violence followed the appearance of two suspected murderers, Sekwetje Mahlamba (32) and Sekola Matlaletsa (44), who appeared in court in Senekal for the first time last Tuesday after being nabbed on Saturday for the alleged murder of Horner the week before at Paul Roux near Bethlehem.
