The illegal squatters are using the storage room at Bird Park for shelter, which causes concern for nearby residents as squatters use plastics and toxic waste to make fire - leading to toxic fumes.

Municipal spokesperson, Ntswaki Makhetha, tells OFM News the municipality cannot get a court order to remove the illegal squatters due to the current Disaster Management Act, linked to the coronavirus pandemic. He added the municipality will also have to find a suitable housing for the squatters after a court order is granted.
