Disgruntled workers allegedly belonging to a private construction company in Bloemfontein in the Free State on Wednesday morning blockaded the four-way crossing near the Department of Home Affairs.

It is alleged that workers have not been paid by the construction company. At this stage, it’s unclear how long the workers have not been paid. During the protests, workers burned tyres and blockaded the four-way crossing in the area. However, a handful of police officials on the ground managed to disperse the irate workers who had embarked on the protest. Officials were also spotted cleaning the road after the protest. OFM News has since sent an enquiry and the police are yet to comment.

Following the mop-up by the police, traffic has since been cleared for road users exiting and entering the area. It is not yet clear if anyone has been arrested by the police following this protest. The police are currently monitoring the situation.
