Sasco members march to FS premier's office─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:31 Wed, 14 Oct 2020
A large contingent of members belonging to the South African Student Organisation (Sasco) has marched to OR Tambo House on Wednesday, where the Free State Premier's Office is.
The march is as a result of various concerns raised by Sasco affiliated students about the plight students find themselves subjected to. Its a sea of yellow t-shirts outside the building with students singing and chanting. Amongst issues besieging students, includes accommodation, allocation of infrastructure development, and the increase of funding for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Tvet) studies. Students have labelled the march as the day of action by Sasco with a theme positioning Tvets as institutions of choice.
In 2019, the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) embarked on a national strike which affected the (TVET) and community education and training (CET) colleges across South Africa.
The protest was sparked by the alleged failure of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) to meet their demands since 2015. Student issues have been a subject of debate every academic year with students from various universities and colleges in the province marching and protesting.
