Bfn police murder suspects' case postponed─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:22 Fri, 16 Oct 2020
The case against three suspects arrested in connection with the murder of a Bloemfontein police officer, Ofentse Odirile Katlego Mokgadinyane, has been postponed to October 22.
This, after the suspects - Thembelone Ngalaka, Thabang Komane, and Thabiso Phelenyane - made a brief appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
The trio allegedly gunned down the 31-year-old police officer at his home in Bloemspruit.
OFM News on Wednesday reported that the Hawks spokesperson, Lynda Steyn, confirmed the suspects - aged between 22 and 29 – reportedly forced open the back door of the house and opened fire on the constable.
He was killed instantly.
Steyn said an intelligence-driven operation comprising members from various law enforcement units was established on Monday after they received information on the whereabouts of the suspects.
The trio was thereafter arrested in possession of a gun, laptop, and a wallet belonging to Mokgadinyane. The firearm seized was reportedly stolen in Hennenman.
Mokgadinyane was stationed at the Park Road Police Station in Bloemfontein as part of the Crime Intelligence Unit.
The National Prosecution Authority's (NPA) spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, confirms the suspect will remain in custody until their next court date.
They face charges of murder, theft, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
