On Friday, popular Bloemfontein hangout, eatery and cocktail bar, Cubana reopened its doors to much fanfare, nearly two years after it was completely gutted in a devastating fire.

Rising like the proverbial phoenix from the ashes, patrons were welcomed to the bigger and better version of the hangout spot, which now boasts a rooftop lounge area, which offers a scenic view of Second Avenue, which is the Free State capital’s party street.

Social media platforms were abuzz with pictures of the reopening, with bottles being popped all round in celebration.

In late November 2018, the establishment burned to the ground in what was deemed to be an accidental fire. OFM News was at the scene as firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings but were unable to save the eatery and cocktail bar, as well as two vehicles that were parked outside the building.

Cubana employees at the time pointed to a faulty gas cable/tank as the source of the problem, however, management refuted those claims.

The incident devastated Bloemfontein party goers, with Nicole Langley telling OFM News that she was shocked and saddened by the incident as the place was her favourite.
