NC duo in the dock over endangered plants─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 05:52 Mon, 19 Oct 2020
Two suspects arrested in possession of an endangered plant in the Northern Cape are expected to appear before the Springbok Magistrate's court today.
The pair were arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning in possession of conophytum pageae – or "button plants" as they are commonly known locally - in Springbok.
The plants are valued at about R200 000. Police provincial spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, confirms a vehicle they were travelling in was confiscated as it was used in the transportation of endangered plants.
Ramatseba says police investigations continue and he has warned no criminal activities will be tolerated in the province.
"The joint operation of Springbok Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit, Springbok K9, Springbok POP and Namakwa Crime Intelligence led to the arrest of the two male suspects," he said.
