Second #Senekal accused granted bail | News Article

The second suspect in the Senekal protest case, Stephen Fourie, has been granted bail of R15 000 in the town's Local Magistrate's Court in the Free State on Monday.

Fourie is facing charges of public violence, arson, and malicious damage to property, among others. He was released after the state opted not to oppose his bail application.

Free State National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, says Fourie is charged together with André Pienaar, who was also released on bail of R15 000 on Monday by the Bloemfontein High Court after an appeal was upheld by Judge Celeste Reinders. The pair will re-appear in the Senekal Magistrate's Court on 20 November on the said charges.

Fourie's arrest follows that of André Pienaar, who was also arrested for his alleged involvement in the unrest that broke out at the Senekal Magistrate's Court during the first appearance of farm manager Brendin Horner's murder suspects.

Meanwhile, the murder case of Horner will resume in the same local court on Tuesday 20 October and Thursday 22 October. Sekwetje Mahlamba and Sekola Matlaletsa, aged 32 and 44 years respectively, will remain in custody until then.
