The 45-year-old Cassius Sebatane Sejake appeared in court on Monday after he was nabbed by the Hawks and remanded in custody.

He is facing four counts of contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act, for allegedly unlawfully awarding four tenders worth R5 million in the 2018/19 financial year.

Hawks provincial spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, told OFM News on Monday that according to information received, the service providers were allegedly appointed without a competitive bidding process.

Rikhotso said Sejake, while he was acting municipal manager (MM), failed to take reasonable steps to ensure that public procurement processes were followed and observed.
