A manhunt has been launched by police in Barkly West in the Northern Cape after the body of a 15-year-old boy was discovered in a graveyard in Mataleng.

According to police spokesperson, Olebogeng Tawana, the teenager’s lifeless body was discovered by a passer-by on Saturday just before midnight. He adds that the teenager sustained severe head injuries and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

Tawana further explains that preliminary investigations suggest that the boy succumbed to head injuries after being pelted with a brick or a rock. He says the motive for the murder is still unknown at this stage and that no suspects have been arrested in connection with the boy’s murder so far.

“We are appealing to any person with any possible lead that could assist the police to bring those who are involved in the boy’s murder to book, to contact the Barkly West Police on 053 531 6200 or contact the Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Roman 082 495 5018,” urges Tawana.

He further encourages community members to also contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 and that information will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
