Glitches hamper bail hearing of former NW official─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:48 Tue, 20 Oct 2020
Technical glitches on Tuesday forced a delay in the bail hearing of the former Ratlou Local Municipal Manager (MM) at the Atemelang Magistrate's Court in the North West.
This is according to the Hawks provincial spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso. She says she was informed by the investigative officer in the case against Cassius Sebatane Sejake, who is facing four counts of contravening the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) after allegedly awarding four tenders worth R5 million in the 2018/19 financial year.
Rikhotso says according to this information, the mounted recording microphones used to record court proceedings, were not working. This then hampered the proceedings. Meanwhile, Sejake was remanded in custody and he is expected to appear in the same court on Friday 23 October for his formal bail hearing.
Sejake was arrested for allegedly failing to follow processes when awarding tenders. It's alleged that when Sejake was an acting municipal manager (MM), he failed to take reasonable steps to ensure that public procurement processes were followed and observed. He thus contravened the MFMA Act, which speaks to fruitless and wasteful expenditure of the Municipal Management Act.
