Judgment reserved in #BrendinHorner bail application─── LUCKY NKUYANE 06:39 Wed, 21 Oct 2020
The state's evidence against two men accused of brutally killing Brendin Horner has been branded as hopeless and desperate by the defence team of Sekwetje Mahlamba and Sekola Matlaletsa.
Advocate Joseph Kgoelanya, who is representing-first accused Mahlaba at the Senekal Magistrate's Court, pulled no punches in his closing arguments during Tuesday's bail hearing.
Kgoelenya told Magistrate Deon van Rooyen that the evidence, led by state witness - Captain Pieter Myburg of the SAPS - was riddled with contradictions and a highly improbable chain of events.
The legal representative for the second accused, Advocate Machini Motloung, followed suit and concurred with most of the arguments submitted by Kgoelenya.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Van Rooyen reserved judgment for Thursday and remanded the duo in custody.
The court yesterday heard that the DNA evidence extracted from items - including clothes which allegedly belongs to Mahlamba - is still unavailable and will continue to be so for the next coming three days.
Witnesses told the police that the two suspects were seen chatting with a group of people at a local tavern in Fateng Tsentsho.
Mahlamba and co-accused Matlaletsa were heard bragging about how they stabbed a white man who was giving them problems.
