Kimberley faces water shutdown─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:39 Thu, 22 Oct 2020
Kimberley residents in the Northern Cape have been warned to brace themselves for a total water shutdown as of Thursday.
This follows after the Sol Plaatje Municipality confirmed that there is a planned water supply interruption to enable emergency repairs to water infrastructure on the mainline from reservoir.
Municipal spokesperson, Sello Matsie, in a statement says the water supply interruption will affect the entire city.
He anticipates repairs will last until Saturday and advises communities to ensure they have adequate water for use during this period.
He explains dam levels at the Newton Reservoir are dropping due to leakages, hence the repairs.
"The primary reason for the leaks vary, from the stray electrical current of passing railway trains over the pipes which can be resolved with the Cathodic protection method, and vandals who destroy valves in the area. Regular updates on progress will be provided and we apologise for the inconvenience." he added.
