Dry, open areas faulted for #fires - Saul─── LEATILE LEIEE 13:19 Fri, 23 Oct 2020
The Premier of the Northern Cape, Zamani Saul, faults the drought conditions the province has endured over the past years for the veld fires.
Responding to the rapid-spreading veld fires in Central South Africa, Premier Saul says together with the help of the Department of Agriculture, they’re currently working on ways to manage the extent of the fires.
These fires have affected more than a hundred thousand hectares of land in the province, resulting in some farmers losing livestock and some parts of their land, according to the premier. The Northern Cape, according to Saul, has already been declared a disaster area in terms of the drought issues and he urges that solutions are already being put under the microscope.
OFM News previously reported that the General Manager of the Free State Umbrella Body of Fire Protection Associations, Johann Breytenbach, says that not every fire will be a huge one but they all have the potential to become one.
Breytenbach, just like the Premier, says that the fires are caused by hot, dry, and windy conditions.
Residents are being cautioned to not make open fires.
