#CoronavirusFS: Acting Premier concerned | News Article

The Acting Premier of the Free State, William Bulwane, has expressed his concerns regarding the recent surge in new Covid-19 cases in the province.

This, after there have been warning signs from the Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize, of a risk in a resurgence in Covid-19 numbers that may result in a second wave of the pandemic in the country. Bulwane tells OFM News that the Free State is showing a rapid increase in numbers of new Covid-19 cases and urges that people demonstrate the same attitude that they once showed when the number of infections decreased.

Bulwane, who is now standing in for Premier of the Free State, Sisi Ntombela, who earlier this month tested positive for the virus alongside the MEC of Health in the province, says that the risk of a second wave is now in the hands of the people.

"We were once leaders of containing the virus, we want them to go out again and make sure the virus does not spread. We are appealing to the people of the Free State to take care of themselves and go back to the basics, it will help them going forward’’.

The Free State currently stands at 12 606 active cases, according to the Covid-19 statistics in South Africa, and last week 22% of new cases in South Africa were reported in the Free State.
