#WaterCrisis: Municipality completes repairs | News Article

The Sol Plaatje Local Municipality in the Northern Cape confirms water supply will resume on Saturday.

This, after residents in the province’s capital city, Kimberley, have for the past two days had to brace themselves for a total water shutdown.

Municipal spokesperson, Sello Matsie, said this was to enable emergency repairs to water infrastructure on the mainline reservoir which would affect the entire city.

In anticipation of the repairs only being completed on Saturday, he advised communities to ensure they had adequate water supply from JoJo tanks.

Whilst Matsie explained that dam levels at the Newton Reservoir were dropping due to leakages, hence they had to effect repairs, he now confirms work has progressed accordingly with no major delays.

“The process of water supply will follow the starting up of the Riverton Purification Pumps and filling up the pipelines and the network which includes the Newton Reservoir. Trucks are still supplying to areas and will only stop once supply has fully been restored,” said Matsie.

He has further extended the municipality’s apology for any inconvenience caused and thanked communities for their cooperation.
