#ZondoCommission: Denel under scrutiny─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 08:52 Mon, 26 Oct 2020
The State Capture Commission of Inquiry will on Monday hear Denel-related testimonies.
The company's former Board member Nonyameko Mandindi and its current Board Chairperson Monhla Hlahla are this Monday expected to take a stand. The aerospace and military technology state-owned company, amongst many corruption allegations almost two years ago, confirmed to have granted former North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo's son a bursary. The company revealed that a R1 million bursary had been awarded to Oarabile Mahumapelo to attend flight school and was later discovered that it was illegal.
Denel’s former chief executive Zwelakhe Ntshepe previously denied the bursary was not above board and has since resigned. Denel has since confirmed to Parliament that it has terminated a R1.1 million bursary agreement with Mahumapelo's son and that it reserved its right to recover any money already paid towards Mahumapelo's studies.
Like many other financially troubled state-owned companies, embroiled in corruption cases, Mandindi and Hlahla will be expected to answer critical questions over the company's financial state.
