The foundation is in the process of expanding this model to other provinces, especially in Bloemfontein, in the Free State. The foundation started the initiative of training a group of men and women who run traditional businesses in the townships to take their business online. This assisted them during lockdown as they could not run their businesses or trade outside of home due to regulations. Even after the ease of lockdown regulations, people are still hesitant to go outside and shop like they used to. The business owners are using online platforms to stay in touch with their customers, and also makes use of digital media to reach more clients in areas outside where they normally reside or trade to scale their business.

OFM News spoke with Tsakane Mpikwane from the Department of Social Development who is collaborating with the GIFT Foundation. She says the proposed dates for training are 4 December, 5 December and 6 December 2020. They have decided to host the training over a weekend with one weekday. She emphasises that they need to have the training in a venue which has computers available. However, if there are no computers available, the foundation will request attendees to bring their own smart phones/ laptops. People who can offer a venue, accommodation and transport for those outside of Bloemfontein can also help. 20 attendees will be selected for the pilot programme.
