Ventersdorp braces for blackout─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:49 Thu, 29 Oct 2020
Residents of Ventersdorp in the JB Marks Municipality in the North West are urged to brace themselves for a total blackout as a result of cable theft.
The municipal spokesperson, Willie Maphosa, tells OFM News that at about 02h00 on Thursday morning, the power utility informed them that cables were stolen at one of its sites. He says Eskom further indicated that it was working on the problem to restore the power to the area. Maphosa says cable theft is prevalent in this area of Ventersdorp.
Maphosa did not indicate when the power will be restored.
"Cable theft regularly happens in Ventersdorp. I think a year ago we also experienced a blackout in a similar situation. So, it happens regularly and mostly in Ventersdorp. We don't have much of this problem around Potchefstroom. What we do have in Potchefstroom, is electricity theft, illegal connections, and so on,” Maphosa says.
The municipality apologised to residents about the inconvenience.
