Mobile clinics provided for rural NW areas─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:17 Mon, 02 Nov 2020
Whilst there is no fixed health structure in the Broedesput Village between Delareyville and Vryburg in the North West, the Health Department maintains the community receives full health services.
Responding to questions posed by the EFF regarding the lack of health services in the area, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, in a parliamentary written reply, says the village has a population of 780 and is serviced through mobile clinics. He says the village was initially part of the Ngaka Modiri Molema District, but was demarcated into Naledi Sub-district in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District and is therefore serviced through mobile clinics from both districts.
Mkhize has refuted claims that the residents in the area are deprived of health services and that mobile clinic services visit the specified community only twice a month. His response comes amidst growing concerns over healthcare services in the country amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
He maintains the Broedesput Village receives healthcare services and that his department is working around the clock to ensure that all rural areas are provided with adequate services.
Responding to the party’s Laetitia Arries, Mkhize outlines that a “mobile clinic from the Naledi Sub-district visits the area fortnightly, the first day of the visit is focused on the youth and children and the second day is dedicated for chronic health services. A mobile clinic from the Ngaka Modiri Molema District visits the area once a month and the medical officer from the Naledi Sub-district, assisted by a professional nurse, also visit the area twice a month”.
