Two recovering after fatal FS accident | News Article

Two survivors of the horrific crash involving a bus and a vehicle, that left six people dead in the Free State this past weekend, are recovering well in hospital.

Free State Health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, confirms one of the two patients, who is a minor, is receiving psychological support and will be discharged tomorrow whilst an adult patient went for surgery after suffering multiple fractures. The two were taken to the Pelonomi Hospital on Sunday after they were involved in an accident between a bus and a light motor vehicle at the Dewetsdorp and Reddersburg crossing. The accident claimed the lives of six people, including two infants, a teenager, and three adults.

The bus reportedly drove over the car and dragged it along for another 150m. It is still unclear what the exact cause or circumstances of the accident were.

OFM News reported that the Provincial Emergency Medical Service’s Sipho Towa confirmed all the injured and deceased were from the car and that patients were all transported to the Pelonomi Trauma Unit.

The bus had about 58 passengers who were treated and observed for shock and later transported to the Bloemfontein Tourism Centre.
