NW police readying for festive season─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:54 Tue, 03 Nov 2020
North West Safer Festive Season Police Operations will be launched on Tuesday.
Provincial Commissioner, Sello Kwena, will this morning outline measures put in place by the South African Police Service to ensure safety and security in the province as the country nears the festive season.
The launch, set to take place in Potchefstroom, comes just days after Police Minister Bheki Cele launched the National Safer Festive Season Operations in Phuthaditjhaba in the Free State.
Cele during the launch last Friday announced that no stone will be left unturned in the fight against crime this coming month and sent a stern warning against any form of criminality. He confirmed there will be high police visibility and urged members of the public to report any criminal activities and to continue abiding by the Covid-19 regulations.
Cele reiterated that everyone has a responsibility to ensure a safe country and play their part in reducing crime by reporting criminal activities.
He announced that 100 vehicles have been handed to all nine provinces in efforts to capacitate the police force.
He announced in the Free Stats that a zero-tolerance approach will be followed against the abuse of alcohol, with a focus on public drinking, substance abuse and crimes related to it. Police visibility in hotspot areas will also be upped.
