Pretend fumigators rob FS post office─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 16:49 Tue, 03 Nov 2020
What started as an ordinary Tuesday at a Botshabelo post office, soon turned chaotic as an armed gang pretending to be pest controllers robbed the facility of cash.
Free State police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, tells OFM News, the five male suspects arrived at the post office located in Section E in a VW Polo just before midday, with one of them clad in personal protective equipment (PPE).
The suspect in PPE informed security they were there to fumigate the post office which is used as a service point to disburse grants for the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). Once let onto the premises, chaos ensued.
Makhele says at 11:20 am, the armed gang of five stormed the building ordering all staff to lie flat on the floor. They instructed one employee to open the safe which contained an undisclosed amount of money. Shortly thereafter they fled the scene with the cash in hand. In a twist of events however, two of the suspects ages 37 and 39-years old were cornered at a filling station in Thaba’ Nchu over ten kms from the crime scene. Authorities found a large amount of money in the vehicle.
Makhele says the two male suspects are still being interrogated by police and investigations possibly linking them to the post office robbery are ongoing.
This is a developing story.
