#GBV concerns NW MEC | News Article

The MEC of Agriculture in the North West, Desbo Mohono, expressed her concerns with the ongoing gender-based violence statistics.

Mohono says people should learn to deal with their issues and not turn to violence against women and children. She urges the government to help fix the cause of the problem. She is of the opinion that the ever-increasing cases of gender-based violence are pathetic and that those who commit such crimes should personally self-evaluate their stance in society.

‘’We understand the conditions that people sometimes find themselves, but when you feel stressed and frustrated it is not right to take out your frustrations on another human being. Our woman and children deserve to feel free, wherever they reside. Let us intensify the ‘’Not In My Name’’ campaign and make sure that we have a safe province and country where our girls and mothers can live safely’’.

The ‘’Not In My Name’’ movement was started to make the government aware of the scourge of everyday abuse against women and children.

The campaign also encourages women to recognise warning signs of abuse in relationships.
