Hotels still recovering from #SAlockdown─── LEATILE LEIEE 15:46 Thu, 05 Nov 2020
Many in the hospitality industry claim they are still suffering from the huge blow received during the national lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
BON Hotel Regional Manager situated in Bloemfontein, Pieter van Rooyen, tells OFM News that despite the easing of regulations, business has not yet picked up. The level 1 regulations currently allow the hotel to operate at 50% capacity, meaning often the clients will rather opt not to use its services because of the restrictions. Van Rooyen also claims that with travel restrictions, they have lost a lot of tourists, especially international tourists.
"Our industry normally tends to bounce back. I'm very positive that we will bounce back. When that will happen, is very difficult to predict at the moment but we are very positive about the future."
In October, the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, extended the National State of Disaster from 15 October 2020 until 15 November 2020.
Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation next week after a meeting was conducted with the National Coronavirus Command Council on a way forward regarding the lockdown and the national state of disaster.
