There was a surprise twist of events at the Wolmaransstad Magistrate's Court over the appearance of the Maquassi Hills officials accused of fraud amounting to R112 000.
The 52-year-old technician was supposed to appear in the Town’s Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after he was nabbed by Hawks on Wednesday. However, Hawks provincial spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, says the 52-year-old did not make his first court appearance yesterday. Rikhotso adds that the suspect will appear in court on Friday.
The suspect who is employed as a technician at the Municipality, which includes Wolmaransstad, was nabbed for allegedly requesting a bribe of R112 000. Rikhotso adds that it’s alleged that the suspects offered to reduce a client’s R1 million debt in exchange for R112 000 payment.
The Hawks’ serious Commercial Crime Unit arrested the suspect while in possession of said amount on Wednesday, following an operation.
