NW municipality settles #Eskom debt─── LEATILE LEIEE 06:38 Fri, 06 Nov 2020
Eskom has withdrawn its decision to leave the residents of the Matlosana Local Municipality in North West - which includes Klerksdorp - without electricity, following steps that were made to pay off the outstanding debt.
Spokesperson of the municipality, Ntswaki Makgetha, tells OFM News that they were able to pay R18.8 million that was owed to Eskom earlier this week.
The municipality was recently given notice of a court order to cut electricity should they fail to pay the debt. Eskom initially told the municipality that starting 12 November, residents would be without electricity.
Makgetha says that they are pleased of the progress they have made and also issued an apology to Eskom.
The municipality concluded that they are currently collecting debt owed to the municipality.
