Two of the biggest Free State Departments - Health and Education - will appear before the Provincial Legislature on Friday.

The two departments, led by MEC Motsheng Tsiu and MEC Tate Makgoe, will respectively account for their quarterly performances. Both Tsiu and Makgoe are expected to table their first quarterly non-financial reports of the 2020/21 financial year.

Tsiu and Makgoe are expected to lay bare before the Portfolio Committee on Health, Education and Social Development how their departments have been performing amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. OFM News previously reported that the two departments once more received the biggest slice of the 2020/21 provincial budget.

Following the outbreak of the coronavirus, Treasury MEC Gadija Brown allocated more funds to them to upscale their performance emphasising the critical role they play in the fight against the pandemic.

Brown highlighted how the two departments, with particular emphasis on the Health Department, will need to outperform itself to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.

Brown subsequently reallocated an additional R45.5 million to the Education Department and an additional R667.2 million to the Provincial Health Department, to spend strictly on Covid-19 response measures.

Whilst Tsui and Makgoe's presentation will focus on their non-financial reports, they are expected to outline how they have been performing and how their departments continue to implement measures against the spread of the virus.
