#BreakingNews: High-profile suspensions rock CUT─── 13:00 Fri, 06 Nov 2020
High-profile suspensions rocked the Central University of Technology (CUT) in Bloemfontein with its Vice-Chancellor and one of his deputies who have allegedly been placed on precautionary suspension following sexual harassment allegations.
VC Henk de Jager has been placed on precautionary suspension following a council meeting on Monday. Indications are that the council was dissatisfied with how De Jager handled a complaint of alleged sexual harassment against a senior staff member, Gary Paul. This allegation is at the centre of the latest developments, according to reliable sources.
The council was unhappy that despite the CUT having a policy on sexual harassment that depicts how to handle such complaints, it was not followed. The senior staff member who was implicated has also been put on precautionary suspension while an investigation was launched.
The chairperson of the council, Boysie Phehlukwayo, allegedly also came under fire for the way he handled the case. He tendered his resignation a day after the council meeting.
OFM News contacted the CUT spokesperson, Dan Maritz, with urgent media questions. He indicated that the CUT Council is going to release a statement on the matter. Detailed questions were sent to the Registrar of the CUT and OFM News is awaiting a response.
