Bail granted to NW official accused of fraud─── LUCKY NKUYANE 14:14 Fri, 06 Nov 2020
The Maquassi Hills Local Municipality technician, accused of fraud amounting to R112 000, has been granted bail at the Wolmaransstad Magistrate's Court.
North West Hawks' provincial spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, confirms that the 52-year-old Francois Jacobus Delport was granted bail of R3 000 this morning. Delport was nabbed by the Hawks on Wednesday for allegedly requesting a bribe of R112 000 from a client. It's alleged that the suspect offered to reduce a client’s R1 million debt in exchange for the R112 000 payment. Rikhotso adds that the matter against Delport was postponed to 1 December 2020 for further investigation.
The Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Unit arrested the suspect while in possession of the said amount on Wednesday, following an operation. On Thursday, Rikhotso said Delport could make his first court appearance and, as such, it was postponed to Friday.
