Free State police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, did not provide any additional details, indicating that the 47-year-old suspect was found hanging in a police cell in the early hours of Saturday morning. Makhele says the deceased and his three co-accused, who are in their thirties, were arrested by Hennenman police in Phomolong township on Friday evening. They are alleged to have fatally shot farmer Pieter Hills in the head and stabbed his 26-year-old son, Eddie.

It has been reported the family’s domestic worker went in search of the victims after the deceased’s wife raised her concerns regarding her inability to get a hold of her family telephonically.

The 26-year-old was transported to a nearby hospital.

It is believed between two and three handguns were stolen during the incident.

The three remaining suspects will appear before the Hennenman Magistrate's Court soon.
