Delay in Welkom power restoration

Delay in Welkom power restoration | News Article

Residents of Welkom in the Free State affected by power outages might have power restored by Thursday.

Eskom says restoration of power to parts of Thabong is taking longer than anticipated and residents will not have power supply on Tuesday as previously communicated. Residents in this city have been without power supply since Friday 6 November, due to a faulty transformer.

The power utility says it has managed to secure a replacement transformer that is being transported from Mpumalanga.

Eskom further confirms the transformer sourced from Mpumalanga is expected to be on-site on Tuesday.

Spokesperson, Stefanie Jansen Van Rensburg, in a statement says they are working together with the Matjhabeng Local Municipality to ensure power supply is restored to communities.

"It is expected that supply to the areas affected by a transformer failure at Thabong East substation will be switched back on in the late-night hours of Thursday, 12 November 2020, if all goes according to plan and if rain or other adverse weather conditions do not cause further delays".

She added Eskom apologises for the inconvenience and assures customers that the repairs are being attended to with the required urgency.
