Rustervaal by-elections hampered by weather─── 12:49 Wed, 11 Nov 2020
Just more than 200 of people have cast their votes in the Rustervaal ward by-elections near Vereeniging in the Vaal Triangle so far.
3009 people registered to participate in the voting process, but rainy weather appears to be hampering the turnout.
The by-elections in this part of the Emfuleni Local Municipality comes after the Democratic Alliance ward councillor resigned in 2019, following ill health.
The area has since had a shadow councillor.
Rustervaal was scheduled by the IEC to have the by-elections earlier in March this year, but following the coronavirus pandemic, it was postponed to now.
Fourteen seats are being contested in Gauteng by-elections today, three of those are in the Vaal – this includes Roshnee and Evaton.
There have been no reports of any incidents, and there is high police visibility at all voting stations.
