VKB Knights sent condolences to team's Wandile Makwetu─── MORGAN PIEK 11:29 Thu, 12 Nov 2020
The VKB Knights sent their condolences to the team's wicket-keeper and batsman, Wandile Makwetu. The former South Africa U19 star, is the son of the late outgoing Auditor-General, Kimi Makwetu.
The 54-year-old Makwetu passed away on Wednesday after losing his battle to cancer. He was diagnosed with lung cancer two years ago, and it had progressed to stage four.
Wandile, who has captained the Knights, was involved in the CSA 4-Day Series match against the Dolphins currently being played in Bloemfontein.
He has been withdrawn from the match for the final day at the Mangaung Oval, and Andries Gous has taken over the wicket-keeping duties as the Knights hunt for a second win of the season.
In 2018, Makwetu was one of three South Africans named in the team of the tournament for the ICC’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand.
The other two players are his current Knights teammates, Raynard van Tonder and Gerald Coetzee.
