The family of a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly repeatedly raped by a 41-year-old teacher in the Northern Cape will receive counselling.
Department of Education spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, tells OFM News that a team from learner support services will visit the family of the girl to provide counselling and psychosocial support.
This follows after the teacher in question was arrested by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit on Friday.
He is alleged to have repeatedly raped the teenage girl on several occasions between September and October 2020. Van der Merwe confirmed to OFM News that teacher has since been put on precautionary suspension pending an internal probe into these allegations.
Police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, said that the suspect was arrested on Friday (November 13), and should be appearing in court soon.
