At least five people - including two children, a new-born baby and two adults were among those who died in a head-on collision on the notorious N8 road in the Free State.
Provincial Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson, Sipho Towa, tells OFM News that 10 injured patients were transported to Mediclinic and the Pelonomi Hospital respectively.
He says one child who was seriously injured was airlifted and two children who had minor injuries were transported to the Pelonomi Trauma Unit, while at least seven adults had minor to moderate injuries.
Towa adds that a light delivery vehicle and sedan were involved in the collision about 27km from Bloemfontein in the direction of Botshabelo.
This is at least the third accident in a space of about three weeks where the lives of children have been tragically lost.
The accident, which reportedly occurred at about 18:00 on Saturday, led to the partial closure of the road.
