#Covid19 forces #PrellerSquareShooting trial to reschedule | News Article

The murder trial of Louis Siemens sitting in the Bloemfontein High Court in the Free State has once again been forced to reschedule.

This as one of the persons heavily involved in this case allegedly came into contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19.

Judge Pitso Molitsoane on Monday informed the defence counsels of the eight men standing trial for the alleged murder of the Bloemfontein businessman that this case will sit again on 23 November.

OFM News' Olebogeng Motse previously reported that court proceedings were to resume in May 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic and the imposed lockdowns to curb contagion of the virus brought life, including the trial, to a grinding halt.

Molitsoane further informed the council that should this person test positive for the virus this will have serious implications for the trial. So far over 20 state witnesses have given their testimony in connection with events in the murder of Siemens.

The outstanding testimonies include that of the confessed assassin, Xolisile “Botha” Mbebetho, who is currently serving 22-years in prison for shooting Siemens four times, killing him, as well as former legal adviser at the Free State Health Department, Justice Vinger.

Siemens, the then Managing Director of day hospital Citymed was shot and killed on 10 May 2018 in the basement parking area of Preller Square Shopping Complex. Since that day, more than ten men have been arrested for playing various direct and indirect roles in orchestrating and carrying out the murder. Eight of those arrested are standing trial while the remaining ones have turned state witnesses.

Stanley Bakili is joined by Molebatsi Mogoera, Kagiso Chabane, Mojalefa “Jali” Molusi, Moeketsi Lesia, Clive Tshivenga, Karabo Tau, and Sizee Mpati as the accused in the trial. The men are between the ages of 29 and 56 and include three police officers, a disbarred advocate, an accused in separate double murder cases, and a military man, alleged to have played varying roles in orchestrating Siemens’ murder.
